Clouston & Co. has recently returned from a trip to New York City to present the newly created wine brand to the world. The identity was created by Strategy Creative’s Christchurch studio at the end of 2017.

Clouston & Co. is owned by renowned Marlborough winery Two Rivers. Head winemaker David Clouston came to Strategy with a request: design a brand that is “not just another wine brand” to get cut-through in the saturated Australian and US wine markets. The time frame? Four weeks for a complete identity, collateral, and clothing.

Luckily for us, we had a great creative base to work from thanks to a rich Clouston family history. Suspicious fires, court cases, and Hitler assassination plots: the Clouston name fills the archives with extraordinary stories.

The identity we created was a major success at the DSWS 2018 Grand Portfolio Tasting in New York and the Clouston team received overwhelmingly positive feedback for the fashion-inspired brand we created. Particular standouts included the oversized stitched catalogue, the white bottles, and the tee shirts adorned with the face of David’s great grandfather: the first Clouston to arrive in New Zealand from Norway.
